Education for Sustainable Development... in the Academic Education in Poland in the Light of the Education for Sustainable Development Strategy

Abstract

In the year 2005 in Vilnius The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe adopted the Strategy for Education for Sustainable Development. The Strategy obliges the signatory countries to integrate the education for sustainable development (ESD) into all forms of their education system and covers all levels and faculties. After nearly 10 years from its adoption and at the end of the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, it is reasonable to verify the engagement of Poland in fulfilling its commitments. The aim of this study is to identify the place of education for sustainable development in national regulations and to make an attempt to characterize the state of education for sustainable development in higher education, with particular emphasis put on economics and pedagogy.
