Eff ect of external electric fi eld upon porphin and selected metalloporphyrins. Towards understanding eff ect of biofi eld and its quantifi cation

Journal Title: Complementary & Alternative Medicine in Science - Year 2013, Vol 1, Issue 1

Abstract

Background. The biofi eld is used on so-called bioenergotherapeutic treatment. Although frequently defi nitely positive results of such treatments the biofi eld can be neither quantifi ed nor even recorded with available instrumental methods. Aim of study: based on the eff ect of external electric fi eld upon porphin and selected metalloporphyrins approach is presented to understanding and possible quantifi cation of biofi eld. Methods. Applying the Monte Carlo method, molecules of porphin, and its Mg, Fe(II), Fe(III), Co(II) and Co(III) complexes are brought to temperature of 300 K and under the infl uence of external electric fi eld of 0.01 a.u their electronic spectra were simulated with HyperChem 8.0 involving ZINDO/S se- miempirical method. Results. Particular molecules diff erently react to the electric fi eld applied as shown by the IR spectra simulated in the range of 3500-100 cm-1. Total energy of porphin and metalloporphyrins molecules turn slightly more negative in the electric fi eld and the EEF of 0.001 a.u. has very little eff ect on it. Only the total energy of Co(II) porphyrin varies irregularly with increase in EEF. HyperChem 8.0 software is used together with the AM1 method for optimization of the conformation of the molecules. Then polarizability, charge distribution, potential and dipole moment for molecules placed in the external electric fi eld of 0.000, 0.001, and 0.01 a.u. are calculated. In metalloporphyrins Co(II), Co(III) Fe(II) and Fe(III) central atoms are negatively charged and EEF slightly reduces that charge. The Mg central atom is positively charged and EEF slightly increases that charge. Thus EEF withdraws electrons from the metal central atoms to the ligand. EEF induces a slightly fi eld strength dependent polarizability of the molecules and the electron density redistribution at particular atoms. Total dipole moment (DM) for porphin and particular metalloporphyrins increases with the strength of the fi eld applied and molecular polarizability of the compounds changes on chimerical way with increase in the EEF strength. Conclusions. The sensitivity of metalloporphyrins to EEF produced by cell membranes and/or proteins (including enzymes) either co- constituting membranes or bound to them can be considered as one of possible ways of the recognition and quantifi cation of biofi eld.
