Effect of Absorbent Plate’s Shape on the Efficiency of Solar Air Collectors

Journal Title: Libyan Journal of Engineering Science and Technology - Year 2023, Vol 3, Issue 2

Abstract

This research presents an experimental study on the performance of a solar-air collector when fins are attached to the absorbing plate in a particular arrangement (long fins, in-line short fins and staggered short fins) with the aim of increasing its heat transfer coefficient. The experiments were conducted under a solar irradiance of Ic = 6933 W/m2 and an air flow rate of m = 0.0044 kg/s. the results showed an improvement of 20, 25 and 29% in the thermal efficiency of the collector when the above-mentioned fin arrangements were considered respectively. This indicates that the staggered short fins arrangement is the best amongst those considered.
