Effect of dietary level and the period of feeding soybean and linseed oil in mixtures on rearing results, slaughter value and meat quality characteristics of broiler chickens
Journal Title: Rośliny Oleiste - Oilseed Crops - Year 2013, Vol 34, Issue 2
Abstract
The feeding experiment has been carried out on three groups of ROSS 308 broiler chickens (K, D-1, D-2), 40 birds in each group (4 replicates of 10 birds). Starter mixtures were fed to the chickens for the first 3 weeks, and they were followed by grower mixtures applied for the next 3 weeks. The mixtures contained wheat and triticale ground (50/50), extracted soybean meal, mineral-vitamin-amino acid supplements as well as soybean and linseed oils. The oils constituted the experimental factor and they were added to the mixtures as follows: group K (control) – 3% soybean oil + 3% linseed oil in both mixtures, D-1 – 3% soybean oil + 3% linseed oil in starter and 6% soybean oil in grower mixtures, D-2 – 6% soybean oil in starter and 3% soybean oil + 3% linseed oil in grower. The feeding did not influence significantly on rearing results and slaughter analysis of chickens, with the exception of adiposity of carcasses. More (P ≤ 0.05) abdominal fat and skin with subcutaneous fat were noticed in the chickens fed the experimental mixtures (group D1 and D2). Significant decrease of the crude ash (P ≤ 0.01) and dry matter in the muscles of experimental birds compared to the control chickens was shown. In both muscles did not prove the subgroups differences in the amounts of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids (P > 0.05), however significant differences (P ≤ 0.05) were observed in the share of monounsaturated fatty acids and polyunsaturated fatty acids as well as PUFA n-6 : PUFA n-3 ratio (P ≤ 0.01). The obtained results allow to recommend the use of the mix of soybean oil and linseed oil on the level of 3% in grower mixture, because it allows to obtain optimal from 4 : 1 to 1 : 1 ratio of n-6 PUFA : n-3 PUFA.

Camelina sativa is an oil plant with fine seeds. Even though the fat content is not as high as in other oil plants cultivated in Poland, since it reaches 28–41%, it is an alternative to other oilseeds taking into...
Response of winter oilseed rape to sulphur fertilization depending on level of nitrogen supply to plants
The basis for these investigations constituted the results of five field trials conducted in 2009–2011 in the Institute of Plant Breeding and Acclimatization in Poznań. In the first year of investigations (2009) the fiel...
The effect of sulphur fertilization on chemical composition of seeds of different breeding forms of winter oilseed rape in the conditions of diverse nitrogen rates
The experiment was carried out in order to investigate the effect of sulphur fertilization (0, 15, 30 i 60 kg S·ha-1) in diverse nitrogen (60, 120 i 180 kg N·ha-1) fertilization conditions on the content of fat, protein...
