EFFECTIVENESS OF SRI LANKAN INDIGENOUS HERBAL SMOKE IN MIGRAINE

Abstract
Migraine, which is most prevalent neurologic disorder characterized by disabling headache, is highly co-morbid with psychopathological conditions such as depression and anxiety. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect and efficacy of inhalation herbal smoke derived from Sri Lankan ola leaves manuscripts in the management of migraine. Thirty Patients were selected randomly according to the diagnosis criteria of migraine based on International Classification of Headache Disorders (ICHD) and divided them in to two equal groups. The testing group was treated with inhalation of herbal preparation twice a day for fourteen days. The comparative group was treated with Migraine QR two tablets twice a day for fourteen days. The follow up was two months. The criteria of assessment to study the efficacy of testing drug was obtained referring the scoring method presented in Zainab et al., 2010. The objective criteria of the assessment were screened through Blood Pressure (BP), Heart Rate (HR) and Respiratory Rate (RR). In group A, pain of migraine headache at before the treatment was significantly different from after treatment (p < 0.05). In group B, photophobia, phonophobia and frequency of migraine headache at before the treatment was significantly different from after treatment (p < 0.05). The testing drug elaborated positive evidences in relieving pain of migraine headache.
