Effects of Biochar Application on Growth, Yield Components and Soil Enzyme Activities in Dry Cultivation of Peanut

Journal Title: 河南科技大学学报(自然科学版) - Year 2018, Vol 39, Issue 3

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of biochar application on the growth and yield component of peanut, as well as soil enzyme activities in hilly area of western Henan. The results show that biochar addition with 20 t·hm-2 significantly increases soil enzyme activities at florescence, pod-setting and maturity stage of peanut, with 22. 6%, 17. 9% and 17. 8% higher invertase activities, 17. 3%, 6. 6% and17. 6% higher urease activities, 16. 0%, 18. 6%, 9. 1% higher catalase activities, respectively. Biochar addition strengthens root function of peanut, remarkably enhances the root volume, main root length, nodule mass of single plant, nitrogenase activity and root vigor of peanut at florescence and pod-setting stage with 26. 7%, 12. 0% higher nodule mass of single plant, 30. 5%, 42. 7% higher nitrogenase activity, 21. 8%, 15. 5% higher root vigor, respectively. Biochar addition promotes plant growth of peanut, significantly enhances plant height, branching number, chlorophyll content and net photosynthetic rate, with 12. 6%, 9. 9%, 22. 2%higher net photosynthetic rate at florescence, pod-setting and maturity stage, respectively. Biochar addition also affects yield component of peanut, significantly increases the pod yield, seed yield and 100-pod mass of peanut, with 13. 0% higher pod yield, 16. 5% higher seed yield, and 8. 0% higher 100-pod mass, respectively.
