Effects of catecholamines on blood pressure in the femoral bone marrow cavity in ovariectomized rats.
Journal Title: Pharmacological Reports - Year 2006, Vol 58, Issue 6
Abstract
Menopausal women display changes in the osseous tissue (osteoporosis, pathologic fractures) and disorders in the function of cardiovascular system (hypertension, cardiovascular disease, arteriosclerosis, calcification). Additionally, interdependence was observed between the loss of osseous tissue and disordered circulation, but the mechanism of the interdependence has never been fully recognized. In order to clarify this problem, the present study concentrated on the effects of catecholamines on blood pressure in the femoral bone marrow cavity in ovariectomized rats. The Ficat-Arlet method was used to examine blood pressure in marrow cavity. Norepinephrine, epinephrine, isoprenaline as well as adrenoceptor antagonists (phentolamine and propranolol) were administered to the controls and the ovariectomized rats. The examinations demonstrated that ovariectomized rats displayed decreased blood pressure in the marrow cavity. In addition, an intensified effect of catecholamines on blood pressure in the marrow cavity of osteoporotic bone in ovariectomized rats was observed.

Antidepressant-like effect of combined treatment with selective sigma receptor agonists and a 5-HT(1A) receptor agonist in the forced swimming test in rats.
The interaction between the selective sigma (sigma) receptor agonists and 8-OH-DPAT, a serotonin (5-HT)(1A) receptor agonist, was examined in the forced swimming test in rats. The results indicate that joint administrati...
Influence of ABCB1 gene polymorphisms on the pharmacokinetics of azithromycin among healthy Chinese Han ethnic subjects.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of ABCB1 gene polymorphisms on azithromycin pharmacokinetics in Chinese Han ethnic subjects. In total, 20 healthy volunteers with various ABCB1 genotypes (6 with 2677GG/3...
Effects of co-treatment with mirtazapine and low doses of risperidone on immobility time in the forced swimming test in mice.
The aim of the present study was to examine the effect of mirtazapine (MIR) and risperidone (an atypical antipsychotic drug), given separately or jointly, on immobility time in the forced swimming test in male C57BL/6J m...
Potential role of G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) heterodimerization in neuropsychiatric disorders: a focus on depression.
G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) represent the largest family of membrane proteins in the human genome and are the target of approximately half of all therapeutic drugs. For many years, GPCRs were thought to exist and...
The short- and long-term effects of two isomers of DDT and their metabolite DDE on hormone secretion and survival of human choriocarcinoma JEG-3 cells.
JEG-3 cells were used to compare the effects of two isomers of DDT (1,1,1,-trichloro-2,2-bis(p-chlorophenyl)ethane), p,p'-DDT and o,p'-DDT and their metabolite DDE (1,1,-dichloro-2,2-bis(p-chlorophenyl)ethylene) on proge...
