Endemic and Rare Plants of Tosya District (Kastamonu)
Journal Title: JOURNAL OF ANATOLIAN ENVIRONMENTAL AND ANIMAL SCIENCES - Year 2019, Vol 4, Issue 1
Abstract
In this study, phytogeographical regions and threat categories of endemic and rare plants grow in Tosya district are determined. Tosya placed in southeast of the Kastamonu province, it is located in the transition region between Irano-Turanian and EuroSiberian phytogeographical regions. It is situated in A4-A5 squares according to the Davis' grid system. In the research area, 1058 plant specimens were collected from different vegetation periods between 2014-2016. After the identification, 816 taxa belonging to 409 genera and 97 families have been determined. 48 of these taxa are cultivated. The number of endemic taxa is 79 with the endemism ratio of 10.29%. There are 2 rare taxa in the research area. The largest families are Fabaceae (10 taxa), Boraginaceae (9 taxa) and Brassicaceae (8 taxa) in terms of the number of taxa included. The largest genera are Astragalus (8 taxa), Onosma (5 taxa) and Verbascum (4 taxa), by the highest number of endemic taxa. The distribution of phytogeographic elements of the endemic flora is Irano-Turanian 35 (44.30%), Euxine 9 (11.40%), Euro-Siberian 4 (5.06%), E. Mediterranean 4 (5.06%) and multiregional or unknown phytogeographic elements 27 (34.18%). IUCN threat categories of endemic taxa are as follows: 1 CR (Critically endangered), 4 EN (Endangered), 3 VU (Vulnerable), 3 LR (cd) (Conservation dependent), 10 LR (nt) (Near threatened), 52 LR (lc) (Least concern), 1 DD (Data deficient) and 5 NE (Not evaluated). Both rare taxa are in VU category..
