Endodontic Management of Radix Entomolaris In Mandibular Second Molar

Journal Title: Indian Journal of Dental Advancements - Year 2016, Vol 8, Issue 3

Abstract

The basic prerequisite for the successful endodontic therapy requires complete awareness and thorough knowledge about the external and internal root canal morphology. Two roots is the common finding seen in mandibular molars but they may have an additional root located lingually (radix entomolaris) or buccally (radix paramolaris). Radix entomolaris is commonly considered to be an Asiatic trait. Though its prevalence is higher is asian population but is found to be lower in Indian races. The presence and identification of such anatomical variant contributes to the predictable outcome of the treatment. The purpose of the present case report is to discuss the endodontic management of a mandibular second molar with radix entomolaris using ultrasonic tips. The treatment plan includes modified access cavity preparation, thorough chemomechanical preparation and obturation of the canals. It is crucial to be familiar with anatomical and morphological variations of root canal system which demand a careful diagnosis and adapted clinical approach to avoid complications or a missed canal during the endodontic procedure.
