Environmental Dichotomy Of Sustainable Tourism: Society And Consumption
Journal Title: Journal of the Human and Social Science Researches - Year 2017, Vol 6, Issue 2
Abstract
The new world order has witnessed a deep social transformation. This transformation has gained an environmentalist dimension depending on resource overconsumption. This has also influenced tourism and formed a basis for a concept; sustainable tourism. Dealing with sustainability and the tourism on a common ground has led to criticisms. The practicability of this concept is contradictive from the aspect of environment. Concordantly, it is important for the issue to be addressed based on its social aspects. It is also remarkable that the dream of industrial revolution as the ideal society has transformed into a bleak reality characterized by environmental derangement. This manifests itself within the relationship between tourism and environment. Accordingly, tourism activities conflict with environmental problems. This situation raises doubts regarding the sustainability of tourism. This study dwells on the analysis of the practicability of sustainable tourism within environmental protection taking into account the phenomena that accompany social transformation.
