Environmental Policy and Economic Growth: Empirical Evidence from East Asia

Journal Title: Caspian Journal of Applied Sciences Research - Year 2013, Vol 2, Issue 2

Abstract

The role of environmental regulation is to ensure the management and use of environmental resources in a way that supports continued improvements in prosperity and wellbeing, for current and future generations. The impact of environmental regulation on the current level of production depends on the long-run technology and equipment changes1. So, the answer of how a restrictive environmental regulation influences the prospects of economic growth is not obvious. In this paper, we try to examine how environmental policy affects economic growth in East Asia. Also, we test the validity of Porter and industrial flight hypothesis. The results show that improved environmental policy helps to increase the region’s economic growth and the Porter and industrial flight hypothesis is valid in this region.
