Ergonomics in modern architecture
Journal Title: Zeszyty Naukowe Małopolskiej Wyższej Szkoły Ekonomicznej w Tarnowie - Year 2017, Vol 35, Issue 3
Abstract
The article presents some thoughts about modern architecture with regard to ergonomic solutions. An analysis will include improprieties in public utility buildings such as those connected with education, cultural or commercial events. In particular their common space: entry area―on the premise as well as inside the building staircase, reception (receptions, offices, waiting rooms), toilet. These areas are dedicated, among others, to individuals of different age, mobility capacities or knowing the facility more or less. The areas should have an accessible, readable character and their solutions must not affect safety. Individuals responsible for safety and comfort of users are, among others, the designer, owner (manager) and building legislator providing requirements in legal acts. Each of these entities takes into consideration user’s wellbeing; however, it is not difficult to implement a solution which diverts from the intended objectives. For instance, during the architectural project, which constitutes a huge investment undertaking, dealing with macro as well as micro scale of the building―arrangement of toilet tiles―it is easy to overlook a detail. It is important to harmonise modern, beautiful solutions with psychophysical needs of the man. The article is a compilation and analysis of selected cases, existing improprieties observed by the Author.
