Journal Title: Львівський філологічний часопис - Year 2018, Vol 3, Issue
Abstract
The paper examines euphemia in the psychological terminology. We describe the functions of euphemisms, their formation ways, the principal peculiarities of their translation from English into Ukrainian. Some of them don’t have any euphemistic correspondences in the Ukrainian language. The euphemisms create some false reality due to the effect of blurring, ambiguity. These lexical units can influence the formation process of worldview of a great number of people. They can also deceive and neutralize the critical mind of a person. Within the psychological terminology the euphemisms create the function of political correctness. Generalization is the principal way of euphemistic formation.
