Evaluation of day care surgery in surgical department of a tertiary care hospital

Abstract
Aim of study is to find out advantage / drawback of day care surgery in public health care setup. Its correlation with patients’ demographic and clinical profile. Study was done at GMERS general hospital and Medical College, Gandhinagar with age group of 15 years to 60 years of either sex. Patients of unilateral inguinal hernia, hydrocele, fibroadenoma of breast, haemorrhoid, anal fissure, fistula in ano, excision of benign swelling, circumcision with American Society of Anesthesiologist grade I & II were included for Day care surgery. Patients were prepared for the day care surgery with spending of 23 hours of time in Hospital. Readmission rate was around 2%. Failure to discharge rate was 2%. Overall patient satisfaction for day care surgery is 97%.
