Evaluation of Drip Irrigation Systems with a CAD-based Program: A Case Study of Kumkale, Çanakkale

Journal Title: ÇOMÜ Ziraat Fakültesi Dergisi - Year 2018, Vol 6, Issue 1

Abstract

Due to errors in the design of drip irrigation systems, the desired uniform water distribution is not achieved in the systems. In this study, 20 agricultural areas were randomly selected in Çanakkale Kumkale Ovası where drip irrigation systems are used intensively and these were evaluated in terms of design. Information on existing systems in the assessment was collected by field studies and this information was entered into the IrriPro package program to obtain the coefficient distributions and maps of water distribution. The total size of the lands investigated in the study is 22 ha and the average size is about 1 ha. It has been determined that the percentage of the operators that use fully the filters in the control unit in the installed systems is 5%. This was considered a major deficiency. As a result of the study, only 15% of the enterprises surveyed were able to achieve the uniform water distribution criteria. In this case, it is said that the uniform water distribution is not achieved generally in drip irrigation systems installed in the plain according to these values obtained from the 20 enterprises selected randomly in Kumkale Plain and the other words, the systems are installed incorrectly generally. Because IrriPro program can used easily to determine water distribution in drip irrigation systems, it is recommended to use the program in design and evaluation of irrigation systems.
