Evaluation of Nutrient Composition of Selected Forages in the Livestock Research Farm of Adamawa State University

Abstract
A research was conducted on the evaluation of nutrient composition of forages in the University Teaching and Research Farm in Mubi area of Adamawa State from April to September, 2013. The results obtained revealed that the forages were found to have good percentage of dietary nutrient composition required by the ruminant animals. The study has revealed that these four forages; Andropogon gayanus, Panicum maximum, Cynodon dactylon and Penisatum pendiccellatum had enough varying mean nutrient protein; 11.53, 12.11, 12.49, and11.53% respectively and dry matter at 21.64, 27.10, 18.41 and 17.52%. These and other nutrient contents revealed have made the forages worthy feeds to the animals. Hence the reason why the animals during their grazing periods used more of the four selected forages. In order to improve the animal productivity in the study area and the state at large, it is recommended to develop techniques of managing and preserving these forages with promising nutritional profile.
