Journal Title: ESTÜDAM Halk Sağlığı Dergisi - Year 2016, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
The study was carried out to evaluate the population aging and the affecting indicators on population and economics in the Turkish Republics. This study is an ecologic research which deals the population aging, life expectancy and their determinants in Turkish republics. The obtained data were evaluated via computarized IBM SPSS (version 20.0) statistical package program. Statistical significance was accepted as p <0.05. In this study, the relationship between population and economic indicators which effect old age dependency rate and the estimated life expectancy at birth for both genders was calculated by using the Spearman correlation coefficient following the expansion of the data according to the population. Life expectancy at birth and old age dependency rate which are used as old age indicator in Turkish Republics showed positive correlation by crude death rate, population density, per capita gross domestic product, per capita health expenditure while there was negative correlation by annual population growth, rural living rate, umemployment percentage of total labor force (p<0,001). Turkic Republics show different characteristics in terms of development stages of population aging. There are also significant differences between the Turkic Republics in terms of population and economic indicators. Sharing cooperation and experience among the Turkish republics in the field of health is important for preventing deaths during the demographic transformation.
