Evaluation Of Postgraduate Education By Questionnaire Results: Experience From Kocaeli University

Abstract
Aim: The evaluation of postgraduate education is quite important in aspect of rising the quality of scientific works and research environment of Instute. The Institute of Health Sciences of Kocaeli University (KOU HSI) is a member of ORPHEUS since 2011 and have been working on ORPHEUS labelling in order to reach world standards in postgraduate education.According to ORPHEUS criteria, It has been expressed that feedback as questionnaire from PhD candidates, Msc students or supervisor is very important in order to update or review the structure, function and quality of PhD trainin programme. In this study, the evaluation of postgraduate education by the help of feedbacks of them was aimed. Methods: Fourty four Msc students and 37 PhD candidates, totally 81 candidates enrolled to KOU HSI for one year period (2016-2017) are included into this study. A feedback questionnaire consisting open and closed ended questions was applied to all postgraduate students. Answers of paticipitants were calculated as percentages. Results: Seventy nine percent of students wanted not more than 30% of lectures involved in trainning programme would given by students and the other lectures would given by lecturers. Sixty five percent of students chosen their supervisors by theirselves and 73% of them satisfied with their supervisor. Fifty one percent of students applied to several institutions for financial support of their projects and 54% of these applications were accepted. Ninety percent of students wanted to be academician, 6% were not decided and 4% wanted to work in other area after their finished their education. All students gave positive feedbacks in evaluation of the service of Health Science Institute. Conclusions: The Institute of Health Sciences should revolve itself according to ORPHEUS standards especially in point of financial support of research projects. It was thought by the help of this study, rehabilitation and improvement in trainning programme of Institute of Health Sciences will be achieved.
