Evaluation of Quality Characteristics of Durum Wheat (Triticum durum Desf.) Genotypes by GGE Biplot Analysis Method
Journal Title: ISPEC Journal of Agricultural Sciences - Year 2022, Vol 6, Issue 3
Abstract
Considering the significant diversity in global wheat yield, insufficient research in the selection of varieties for climate change, and the lack of suitable germplasm in sustainable agricultural ecosystems, it is inevitable that there is an absolute need for genotypes with stable values in terms of quality parameters as well as high yields. This study was carried out at the trial area of Diyarbakır GAPUTAEM in 2015-2016. In the study, 120 advanced durum wheat lines and five registered varieties were used as plant material. The study was set up according to the Augmented experimental design, with 6 blocks and 25 parcels in each block. By applying the GGE Biplot analysis method to the quality parameters examined in the study, both inter-trait and genotype-trait relationships were evaluated. As a result of the GGE Biplot analysis, features that are related to each other and genotypes that stand out in terms of certain features are presented visually. It has been determined that the vitreousness ratio and protein ratio, color value and sedimentation value, thousand-grain weight, and hectoliter weight characteristics, which are among the properties examined according to the resulting image, show a strong correlation relationship by being in the same group, and this relationship should be considered in such studies where many genotypes are evaluated. In addition, it was concluded that genotypes with higher values compared to control cultivars should be evaluated in regional trials to understand and examine the stability in different environments and be transferred to a higher level and used in breeding programs for cultivar development.
