Evaluation of the Nutritional Status of Date Palms (Phoenix dactylifera L.) widely grown in Ahvaz/Iran with soil and plant analysis
Journal Title: MAS Journal of Applied Sciences - Year 2023, Vol 8, Issue 4
Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the nutritional status of date palm plants in Ahvaz/Iran region by soil and plant analysis. For this purpose, composite soil samples collected from 5 different sampling sites and date palm leaves showing homogeneous growth in the same locations were sampled. Some physical (texture) and chemical analyses (pH, KDK, EC, OM, plant-available macro and micronutrient levels) were performed on soil samples after preliminary preparation, while nitrogen (N) was determined by micro-Kjeldahl method and macro and micronutrient contents (K, Mg, Ca, Fe, Cu, Zn and Mn) were determined after burning in nitric-perchloric acid mixture. According to the results obtained, organic matter and total nitrogen contents of the soils where date palm cultivars grow in Ahvaz region of Iran are low, soils are salt-free, lime is high, soil reaction (pH) is neutral and alkaline, P, K, Ca are sufficient, plant available Fe and Mn contents of Dayri cultivar date palm (H5) soil are low, Mn is low in Genhar cultivar date palm (H4) soil, Cu, Zn levels are sufficient in all soils. Leaf N, Ca, K, Cu, Mn and Zn contents of date palm plants (except Cu, in H3, H4 and H5 samples) were found below normal levels. In order to preserve the soil properties that are at the ideal limit in the fertilizer management of date palm plants and to eliminate the deficiency problems, it is predicted that measures should be taken according to the principle of ecological and economic fertilizer support based on correlation and calibration studies and in accordance with the principle of ecological and economic fertilizer support, according to the 4 correct (correct fertilizer, correct dose, correct time and correct method of fertilization) basis of the producers.
