Journal Title: Journal of Evolution of Medical and Dental Sciences - Year 2017, Vol 6, Issue 71

Abstract

BACKGROUND In contemporary India, doctors are often accused of unethical act. This led us to evaluate if undergraduate students lack in knowledge of medical ethics and law. Objective- To evaluate the knowledge on medical ethics and law among students, after the subject was taught to them. MATERIALS AND METHODS An anonymised, questionnaire-based, cross-sectional survey of students, on medical ethics and law was carried out among all students who were present in the class. RESULTS 60.95% students had good knowledge and 29.52% had adequate knowledge. Totally more than 90% (60.95% +29.52%) of students had more than adequate knowledge on medical ethics and law. CONCLUSION Students of Medical College have adequate knowledge on medical ethics and law. But then, why doctors are often accused of unethical act is difficult to explain. Maybe the society becomes restless in cases of physical illness and unnecessarily blames the doctors.
