Journal Title: Dokuz Eylul Universitesi Tip Fakultesi Dergisi - Year 2019, Vol 33, Issue 2
Abstract
Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Anxiety Literacy Scale (ALIT-Scale) in Turkish. Material and Method: This study is a methodological study conducted with the students of Eskişehir Osmangazi University in 2017-2018 academic year. Anxiety Literacy-Scale was translated into Turkish by translation-back translation method by two independent foreign language experts and presented to expert opinion. The ALIT-Scale’s Content Validity Index was 0.82. In the study, ALIT-Scale was applied to determine the level of ALIT, the equivalent of criterion validity was assessed by Turkey's Health Literacy Scale-32(THL-32). In order to evaluate the test-retest reliability and discriminant validity of the scale, the scale was applied to 38 students from the Faculty of Medicine twice in two weeks intervals. Validity and reliability analysis of the scale were performedResults: Of the 204 subjects in the study group, 38 (19%) were male 166 (81%) were female, and the mean age was 20.2 ± 2.3 years. Factor loadings of the scale items in Exploratory Factor Analysis were found to be greater than 0.30. The single factor structure revealed 58.2% of the total variance. According to Confirmatory Factor Analysis results, fit indexes were found to be acceptable. It was found that the median scores of the students in the Faculty of Medicine were higher than the students of the Faculty of Science and Letters. There was weak positive correlation between the ALIT-Scale and THL-32. Cronbach's Alpha coefficient was found to be 0.88. The test-retest reliability analysis showed a strong positive correlation between total scores. Conclusion: In the light of analysis, it can be concluded that ALIT-Scale provides sufficient validity and reliability to measure anxiety literacy.
