Examining the Role of Competitive Intelligence as the New Strategic Information Technology Process in Changing the Banking Industry (Case study: Urmia Banks)

Abstract

The aim of the present study is to examine the role of competitive intelligence as the new strategic information technology process in changing the banking industry across Urmia banks. So, the study is that of the applied and descriptive in terms of the type and design, respectively. The statistical population comprised of all 5231 employees working across Urmia banks and the sample size was determined as 322 using Cochran formula. To determine the sample size, stratified random sampling method was employed. To collect the data, competitive intelligence questionnaire developed by DeShamps and Naiak as well as Abdeli et al. questionnaires were employed. The validity of the questionnaires was confirmed by the experts in e field and that the reliabilities were assessed as 0.89 and 0.77 for competitive intelligence and change of baking industry using Cronabach alpha coefficient. To test the hypotheses, t-test was used. The results indicated that the competitive intelligence ad an effect on the change of banking industry. Also, awareness of rivals’ status, market status, social status, regard to solution-based technology, new technologies and new processes were effective in changing the banking industry.
