Experimental Evaluation for Multi-Response Optimality on AISI 316 L Materials With Coated Carbide Inserts using GRA And VIKOR Methods

Abstract

Experimental evaluations are prominent in metal cutting industries, as they predict the real time analysis of the machining. This work relates in experimental optimal analysis of machining parameters using Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) and VIKOR methods on surface roughness, tool temperatures and metal removal rate while machining on CNC lathe. A comparison on multi-objective optimal analysis between GRA and VIKOR is carried. Study on AISI 316L work piece materials have been considered under dry machining with spindle speed, feed and depth of cut as machining parameters. Analysis of Variance was used to evaluation of predominance of machining parameters. In this paper, the novelty of utilization of VIKOR method comparable to GRA, which was attempted only for supply chain problems and was successfully adopted for machining optimization. The VIKOR method shows giving due weight to all machining parameters results in exactness of multi-response decision optimization, which was not present in GRA method.
