Fabrication and antibacterial evaluation of Chitosan/Poly(vinyl Alcohol)/Methylcellulose ternary blend film

Journal Title: Journal of Pharmacy Research - Year 2011, Vol 4, Issue 8

Abstract

The present study explores the fabrication of chitosan/poly(vinyl alcohol)/methylcellulose films in view of their increasing applications as antimicrobial packaging, wound dressing and antibacterial materials. The antimicrobial activity of the chitosan/PVA/MC blended films has demonstrated significant effects against Escherichia coli (E. coli), P.seudomonas, Staphylococcus, and Micrococcus. Physical characterization of ternary blend film was carried out and their swelling behavior was studied.
