Fast track surgery (fts) in the nursing process – theoretical assumptions

Abstract
Introduction. Fast track surgery refers to a specific model of care that requires involvement of multidisciplinary team: surgeon, anesthesiologist, nurse, therapist and the patient himself/herself. Activities of all these persons are aimed at minimizing disturbances in normal functioning of a patient. This results in faster recovery, lower morbidity and minimum interference with physiological homeostasis. Aim. The aim of this paper is to review theoretical background of fast track surgery in the context of nursing process. The study is based on a review of literature dealing with the problem in question. Conclusions. Knowledge of the rules of fast track surgery enables nurses to offer fully professional care to surgically treated patients nation services.
