Flutter Structural Analysis of an Aircraft Wing

Journal Title: Libyan Journal of Engineering Science and Technology - Year 2023, Vol 3, Issue 2

Abstract

In this project, the flutter analysis of wing section (airfoil) has been done using Lagrange’s energy method. Firstly, surveying on related topics to this project has been processed in order to have a good grasp of historical background and literature. Secondly, mathematical approach and followed so as to have a complete set of equations of motion for aeroelastic flutter analysis by Lagrange's energy method using the steady aerodynamic theory. A numerical solution of the equations derived is performed via computer program using MATLAB environment to solve for the dimensionless flutter speed and flutter frequency for an incompressible, two-degree-of-freedom flutter problem. Then, modelling of the wing (3D) is performed by using SOLIDWORKS 2016 and simulations of wing natural frequencies are performed computationally using FEA package such as ANSYS Workbench 16.0. Conclusion to these works has been summarized and plotted at the end of this work in which flutter speed is determined and simulated to natural frequencies.
