Food security indicators in Ukraine: development trends

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to assess the current level of food security of Ukraine and define set trends in the main indicators change. Reseach methodology. The theoretical basis of the research are: the fundamental provisions of formation of the food supply system; modern economic theory, which defines goals and patterns of sustainable development of the world and Ukraine; scientific works of domestic and foreign scientists on issues of food security, public administration and legislative regulation of this problem. The methodological basis of the research consists of general scientific and specific methods of scientific knowledge. In the process of research, the following methods of economic research have been used: abstract and logical (the formation of theoretical generalizations and conclusions); monographic (study of scientific works on problems of food security formation at different hierarchical levels); terminological and concepts analysis (research of conceptual approaches to the formation of a system of indicators of food security at different hierarchical levels); direct analysis and synthesis, comparison, graphing, ranking. Reseach results. There has been made an assessment of the current level of food security in Ukraine and trends in changing key indicators have been identified: the state of food security in 2016 in Ukraine by most indicators did not meet the established thresholds and norms. Elements of scientific innovation. The current state of food security in Ukraine has been investigated through indicators (daily energy value of the human diet, sufficiency consumption of certain products, the adequacy of supplies of grain in state resources, the economic availability of food, the differentiation value of food by social groups, the market capacity of individual products, the food independence for the individual product) taking into account their connections and their influence of various factors on different levels. The practical significance. An assessment of the current level of food security in Ukraine has been made and established trends in changing key indicators, which allows us to formulate a food security policy of Ukraine at different levels (macro and micro, household).
