Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2016, Vol 9, Issue 47
Abstract
Juvenile delinquency which has become one of the current problems in our country, has started to show it self in a new space and symbol concept. Children who see violence as a way out and accept this as a part of a normal process, have defined themselves as YDG-H (Revolutionary Patriotic Youth Movement) YDG-H which is also referred to as PKK’s youth organization, PKK’s Urban Order Team or PKK’s police, is trying to assert dominance by illegal violence acts such as highway robbery, ID control, ensuring the order or neighborhoods. This organization which tends to choose Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia regions as its realm of existence, has started to operate especially in provinces such as Hakkari, Şırnak, Van and Diyarbakır. This youth which usually consists of children belonging to the same street or neighborhood, have declared their loyalty to Abdullah Öcalan and have gone into action as PKK’s KCK organization’s defense units. YDG-H which could be defined under social movements, which is one of Sociology’s important fields, has extended this process with the recent actions it has realized. While aim and method regarding social movements can be clearly defined, it was seen that such definitions cannot be made for YDG-H and therefore determined that the best and solid way would be to interview YDG-H members. The fundamental aim of this study is to define why YDG-H members are in this movement and what purpose they serve. The reasons why these children who have barely turned 19 are seeing violence as a resolution method will be tried to be determined in the field. For this reason, interviews were held with especially children of families whom migrated to Van city center from Diyarbakır, Şırnak and Hakkari and the opportunity to establish communication with some youngsters at Yüksekova city center was found. In our study which follows a qualitative method we utilized in-depth interview and monitoring techniques and remarks were recorded. The names planned to be used in the study have not been used due to the refusal of YDG-H members and coding was applied instead.
