Forensic age estimation using foti’s method– A radiographic study
Journal Title: IP International Journal of Maxillofacial Imaging - Year 2018, Vol 4, Issue 2
Abstract
Introduction Foti et al proposed four mathematical models to determine the age by counting the erupted teeth and germs in children obtained with the help of stepwise ascending multiple linear regressions Among the four models Model 1 regressive formula helps to determine the age by using radiographs that shows teeth and dental germs The present study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of Fotis method of dental age estimation by comparing the age estimated with the chronological age in the study populationMaterials and MethodA retrospective study has been conducted using 62 panoramic radiographs of subjects ranging from the age 620 years The age estimation is done by Fotis Model No 1 regressive equation using radiographs showing erupted teeth and dental germsResultsStatistical analysis indicated that there is signicant difference between chronological age and age obtained by Fotis method pvalue over estimation of age when Fotis model 1 regression formula is used in the present study populationConclusionThe present study indicates that Fotis Model 1 regression formula is inappropriate for age estimation in the present study populationKeywordsAge estimation dental age Chronological age Forensic dentistry Fotis method

Giant complex odontomas erupting in the Oral Cavity
Odontomas are the most common odontogenic tumors. Complex odontomas are less frequently found as compared to the compound odontomas and they are considered to be hamartomatous malformations rather than true neoplasms. Us...
Morphometric evaluation of Bizygomatic distance and maxillary sinus width as dimorphic tool- A CBCT study
Objectives: The objective of this study is to determine the age prediction on the basis of Bizygomatic distance, intermaxillary distance, Antero-Posterior diameter and maxillary sinus width. The bizygomatic distance and...
