Formulation and Evaluation of Taste Masking Metoclopramide Hydrochloride Rapid-Disintegrating Tablets
Journal Title: Indian Journal of Research in Pharmacy and Biotechnology - Year 2014, Vol 2, Issue 4
Abstract
In the present work, rapid disintegrating tablets of Metoclopramide hydrochloride were prepared by direct compression method with a view to enhance patient compliance. The bitter taste of Metoclopramide hydrochloride was masked using Eudragit E 100 by mass extrusion method. Two superdisintegrant, viz., crospovidone and sodium starch glycolate were used in different ratio (3-7% w/w) separately and in combination. The taste-masked powder was analyzed for percentage drug content percentage yield. Taste masking was confirmed by dissolving the mass extruded power in acidic buffer pH 6.8. The prepared batches of tablets were evaluated for thickness, weight variation, hardness, friability, drug content uniformity, wetting time, water absorption ratio, In-vitro disintegration time and In-vitro drug release. The results of pre and post compression studies of all the formulations were well within the compendia limits. Based on disintegration time (approximately 11 seconds) and percentage drug release is 50.90 after 2 min and 102.06 after 10 min. formulation F3 containing 7% crospovidone was considered to be the best formulation.
