FRICTION RESISTANCE IN SLIDE/ROLL MOTION FOR CHOSEN POLYMERS AGAINST STEEL
Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2014, Vol 256, Issue 4
Abstract
The paper describes the study of polymer-steel sliding pairs during slip-roll motion. The analysis focused on the frictional forces at various rolling to slip ratios. The kinematic parameters of the friction node were the angular velocity of the steel cylinder – ω, and the linear speed of the polymer plate – vp. In the experiment, the geometrical slip speed was constant at s = 25 mm/s for each case. Constant geometrical slip speeds for different values of the plate speed (traverse of contact point) vp allowed the determination of the influence of this parameter on the friction force. Materials that were tested had different values of the elastic modulus (Young's modules) POM, POM + 40% GF and PE-UHMW. They worked against steel C45. The results of the experiment showed the plate speed impact (the contact point's traverse) vp on the friction force values. It was demonstrated that friction force depends on the mechanical properties of the polymer and kinematic conditions.
