FUNCTIONAL IMPRESSION PROCEDURE FOR DISTAL EXTENTION CASES EMPLOYING ALTERED CAST TECHNIQUE: A CASE REPORT

Abstract
Edentulousness falls in a special category among the various conditions of dental origin. Tooth loss is the dental equivalent of mortality. The awareness and demand for quality of dental treatment is relatively increasing in recent generation and more so, as far as aesthetics are concerned, along with other functions of the prosthesis. In treating partially edentulous mouth, it requires more attention, principally for esthetics, in design. In an era of implants and fixed prosthesis, removable partial dentures are still a treatment of choice for a wide range of patients and clinicians. Removable partial denture treatment is considered a viable option to replace missing teeth as inexpensively as possible. Factors influencing clinical treatment of partially dentate patients are varied, and there isa need to identify factors influencing success in the provision of removable partial dentures. The most challenging job for a prosthodontist is to rehabilitate the partial edentulous patient especially distal extension cases where fabrication of fixed prosthesis is quite impossible without using implants. Several conventional and contemporary treatment options are available for treating long span edentulous situations. This article provides a simplified approach for rehabilitating the partially edentulous situations using cast partial denture in the upper and lower arch, a case report.
