FUNCTIONAL OUTCOME OF FRACTURES OF PROXIMAL HUMERUS TREATED WITH PHILOS PLATE
Journal Title: IJAR-Indian Journal of Applied Research - Year 2017, Vol 7, Issue 10
Abstract
Controversy surrounds the management of displaced proximal humerus fractures which accounts for 4 % of appendicular fractures and produces significant morbidity especially in elderly population. We report the functional outcome and complications of proximal humerus fractures treated by PHILOS plating (Proximal humerus internal locking system) at a mean follow up of 8 months (6-11months). There were 19men and 13 women with a mean age of 50.7 years (17-81). At final follow up the mean Neer's shoulder score was 82.3(70-93). Functional outcome was excellent in 18.75% cases, satisfactory in 56.25% cases and unsatisfactory in 25% cases. The study concluded that the PHILOS plate is an excellent implant for the internal fixation of majority of complex proximal humerus fractures
