Functioning of religious symbols in fi ction as the demonstration of mystical tradition

Abstract
In the article the religious symbol is examined as one of the expressions of the sacred in ¿ ction. Polysemy of the religious symbol is emphasized and its mystery in marking supernatural as well. In this context correlation of mysticism and symbol, mysticism and literature is being revealed. Genres of mystical literature are being described, in particular hymn, prayer, psalm etc, however, a special attention is called on parable, legend, philosophical poem and meditative lyrics, as frequently referred in the artistic study of biblical plots by Ukrainian poets.
