FUNERAL AND COMMEMORATION RITES OF UKRAINIANS IN TRANSCARPATHIA AT THE END THE XIX TH – THE FIRST HALF OF THE XX TH CENTURY (ON MATERIALS OF FIELD ETHNOGRAPHIC RESEARCH)

Abstract

In the given article has been observed the funeral and commemoration ritualism of Ukrainians in Transcarpathia at the end of the XIX th – the first half of the XX th century. The author describes the burial ceremony on its main stages, based on her own ethnographic materials, published sources and available literature. The attention is paid to the preparation of the decreased in final journey, the actual burial rites, necessary attributes and memorial meal, as the final stage of the ritual. The emphasis is made on the uniqueness of some ritual components, such as reading and singing of “Psalter” by a large number of people.
