GASTRONOMIC METAPHOR AND METONYMY IN PROVERBS

Abstract

This article presents a research in history of the origin, development and importance of adages that are relevant to Ukrainian cuisine, and their introduction into the works of art. The role of figurative and semantic factors of these adages is played by metaphors and metonymies. The research is necessitated by the urge to understand proverbs that relate to the food system as an important segment of the consumer culture, as well as their use in fiction, on their own and in works of poetry.
