General characteristics of the largest enterprises of the chemical industry of Ukraine

Abstract
The article investigates the place and role of the largest enterprises in the chemical industry of Ukraine. The chemical industry of Ukraine is represented by almost 2000 enterprises. However, it is based on several large enterprises. The activity of these enter-prises forms the main tendencies in the chemical industry of Ukraine: almost 47% of the volume of chemical products sold is the products of the largest enterprises; almost 40% of chemical workers are involved in the activities of these enterprises; most of the enterprises analyzed are monopolists in their activities. The general characteristic of activity of each of the largest enterprises of the chemical industry is given: activities, export of products, results of activity in recent years, etc. are considered. The main obstacles of the development of chemical industry enterprises at the present stage of economic development are revealed: unstable political situation; unstable legislation; general economic factors and so on. The specific problems of the development of enterprises of the chemical industry are highlighted: the growth of the cost of raw materials and energy resources; price fluctuations on mineral fertilizers on the world market; pressure from importers of chemical products that are supplied with cheaper raw materials; seasonality of consumption of certain types of products of the chemical industry (mainly it concerns mineral fertilizers), etc. It is suggested that enterprises demonstrate more flexible methods of strategic management, in order to effectively prevent possible outcomes of the external environment. Concerning specific factors, it is necessary to solve problems: the problem of price policy can be solved by developing energy-saving production, which start to practice large enterprises of Ukraine; the cooperation with the consumers (for example, with agrarians in the production of mineral fertilizers) is positively influenced by the activity of chemical producers; the scientific and technological development of enterprises requires additional financing, etc.
