Gregory of Nazianzus, A Cappadocian Chrıstıan Theologian and his Effect on the Formation of Christianity

Abstract

Regarded as one of the three greatest saints of the Christianity, Gregory of Nazianzu?s who grew up in Cappadocia is in the meantime considered one of the founders of the Ortodox Church. His influence can be seen in the formation of the views on the doctrines of trinity and Jesus Christ in Christian theology. According to him, the victory and the superiority of the Church would be at the best possible through a adaptation of the traditions of the classical culture. From his point of view as regards the question of God, the religious experience is what should be focused on due to the fact that the content of a reality may differ from what is perceived. In this article, following a brief introduction to his life, the opinions he put forward in the development period of Christian theology, the position he occupied in the clergy as well as his mission and struggle will be dealt with.
