Growth Rates Analysis of Porites Corals from Nusa Penida, Bali
Journal Title: Journal of Mathematical and Fundamental Sciences - Year 2016, Vol 48, Issue 1
Abstract
The annual growth of Porites coral is represented by a pair of high- and low-density bands. Environmental changes in the ambient waters influence the pattern of these annual density bands. Five colonies of Porites corals from Nusa Penida, Bali were investigated to analyze their annual linear growth rates using coral densitometry. From the analysis it was found that the annual linear growth rates of the colonies varied between 0.8924 to 1.0012 cm/yr. The trends of the colonies growth rates also varied. Two colonies showed a decreasing trend, while the others showed an increasing trend. The annual linear growth rates of most of the colonies were not influenced by sea surface temperature (SST); only one out of five colonies had a significant correlation with SST (R = 0.66, p-value < 0.05).

Riesz Representation Theorem on Bilinear Spaces of Truncated Laurent Series
In this study a generalization of the Riesz representation theorem on non-degenerate bilinear spaces, particularly on spaces of truncated Laurent series, was developed. It was shown that any linear functional on a non-de...
New Estimation Rules for Unknown Parameters on Holt-Winters Multiplicative Method
The Holt-Winters method is a well-known forecasting method used in time-series analysis to forecast future data when a trend and seasonal pattern is detected. There are two variations, i.e. the additive and the multiplic...
Anti-inflammatory Activities and Gastric Ulcer-inducing Properties of Tetraacetylquercetin and Tetrapivaloylquercetin
Quercetin (3,3’4’,5,7-pentahydroxyflavone) has been reported to show anti-inflammatory activity. However, its low oral bioavailability limits the application of quercetin in therapy. Ester derivatives of quercetin have b...
Assessing Resistance and Bioremediation Ability of Enterobacter sp. Strain Saw-1 on Molybdenum in Various Heavy Metals and Pesticides
One of the most economical approaches for removal of toxic compounds is bioremediation. In the long term, bioremediation is economic and feasible compared to other methods, such as physical or chemical methods. A bacteri...
