Health-Related Quality of Life in Chronic HCV Patients, Who Don’t Know About Their Disease

Journal Title: Актуальна інфектологія - Year 2013, Vol 1, Issue 1

Abstract

The purpose of the study — to determine how much the awareness of HCV patients about their disease affects health-related quality of life. Indices of health-related quality of life were studied in 893 people who were divided into groups: patients of multidisciplinary hospital, who were first diagnosed with hepatitis C (33 HCV patients), patients of multidisciplinary hospital without concomitant hepatitis C (539 patients), HCV patients receiving specific therapy with interferons (89 patients), control group (232 healthy respondents). Awareness of HCV patients about the disease, potentially limiting longevity, has an impact on health-related quality of life, even despite the fact that the disease is in the stage of compensation (mainly on the indicators of mental health of patients).
