Hearing Outcome in Canal Wall Down Mastoidectomy with Type III Tympanoplasty

Abstract
ObjectivePreoperative and postoperative hearing results were compared in patients undergoing hearing reconstraction through canal wall down mastoidectomy with type III tympanoplasty method in our institute. Materials and methodsTotal number of 30 patients with chronic otitis media squamosal type , who had undergone different types of ossicular chain reconstruction by type III tympanoplasty with canal wall down mastoidectomy surgery between May 2013 and April 2014 were enrolled in the study post operative hearing gain of patients was evaluated by pure tone audiometry at 6 months after surgery. ResultsIn terms of air-bone gap closure 50% of our study population had a ABG closure of l0 dB or less, 43.3% of the patients had A-B Gap closure of 20dB or less and 6.7% had A-B Gap closure of 30dB or less. ConclusionCanal wall down mastoidectomy with Type III Tympanoplasty provides the patients with dry and safe ear with serviceable hearing postoperatively.
