Heart rate variability in patients with recurrent syncope
Journal Title: Archives of Medical Science - Year 2006, Vol 2, Issue 4
Abstract
Introduction: The autonomic nervous system participates in the pathophysiology of vasovagal syncope. The disturbances in the autonomic nervous system can be measured by heart rate variability (HRV). The aim of the study was to assess the usefulness of HRV spectral analysis during HUTT in patients with recurrent syncope. Material and methods: 170 patients with syncope were divided into: positive head-up tilt testing (HUTT) (group I) n=129 and negative HUTT (group II) n=41. The control group comprised 19 healthy volunteers. In all the history was taken, especially with data about syncope and coexisting diseases. Physical examination, 12-lead rest ECG, 24-hour Holter ECG and HRV spectral analysis during HUTT were also performed. Results: Analyzed groups differed in number of syncope, presence of prodromal symptoms (p

The leukemogenic role of (iASPP) in acute leukemia
Introduction: The ASPP family (apoptosis – stimulating proteins of p53) comprises three proteins, ASPP1, ASPP2 and iASPP, that interact with and modulate the behavior of p53. ASPP1 and ASPP2 enhance the ability of p53 to...
Additional openings of the coronary sinus and associated anomalies
The coronary sinus normally opens into the right atrium through a single orifice. Past research studies have described various anomalies of the coronary sinus but there are fewer reports on multiple orifices of the cor...
Two candidate gene polymorphisms in ADHD children: a case-control study of catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) and monoamine oxidase B (MAOB) genes
Introduction: Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common polygenic heritable disorder. We have investigated the relationship between ADHD and polymorphisms of catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) and mono...

A reappraisal of concepts in heart failure: Central role of cardiac power reserve
Of all cardiological conditions, heart failure (HF) is by far conceptually the most difficult to grasp. For over a century, it has been beset with a number of misconceptions, which require reappraisal. Central to these m...
