Hemocyte changes of larvae of the beet moth, Scrobipalpa ocellatella (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) affected by thermal stress
Journal Title: Journal of Entomological Society of Iran - Year 2021, Vol 41, Issue 1
Abstract
The hemocytes of insects are one of key components of immune system of insects against various stresses such as temperature changes. in hemolymph of Scrobipalpa ocellatella, Five types of identified hemocytes were prohemocytes (PRs), plasmatocytes (PLs), granulocytes (GRs), oenocytoids (OEs) and spherulocytes (SPs). The effect of different thermal stresses was also investigated for 24 hours on cellular defense of fifth instar larvae. At 28 and 30 °C, total hemocyte count (THC), GRS and OES of larvae was increased significantly compared to the control (20±1 °C). Also, chill stress (4 °C) showed a significant decrease in THC, PLs and GRS compared to the control. These findings could be used as a base for further investigation on the immunology studies of beet moth.

Comparing life table parameters of Brachycaudus cardui (Hemiptera: Aphididae) on artichoke under laboratory and semi-field conditions
Life table parameters of Brachycaudus cardui L. (Hemiptera: Aphididae) feeding on the host plant, Cynara scolymus L. (Artichoke) were studied under laboratory (22 ± 1°C, relative humidity of 65 ± 5% and a photoperiod of...
First report of the fungus-feeding thrips, Phlaeothrips annulipes (Thysanoptera: Phlaeothripidae) from Iran
Globally, Phlaeothripidae is the largest family of Thysanoptera that at least 50% of its species are fugus-feeding (ThripsWiki, 2021). However, for various reasons (see Minaei 2013), the number of species recorded in t...
Estimation of the lower temperature threshold and thermal requirement of olive fruit fly Bacterocera oleae Rossi. (Dip:Tephritidae) using Degree-Day and Ikemoto linear models
Olive fruit fly, Bactrocera oleae (Rossi) (Dip: Tephritidae), is one of the most important and main pests that attack olives around the world, especially in Mediterranean countries. The fly larvae seriously reduces oli...
Lethal and sublethal effects of three insecticides on green lacewing, Chrysoperla carnea (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) under laboratory conditions
Chrysoperla carnea Stephens (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) is an important beneficial predator in agriculture, which is easily reared in laboratory. It is widely used in augmentative biological control programs. Research on s...
