Henoch-Schönlein purpura

Abstract
Henoch-Schönlein purpura is a form of leukocytoclastic vasculitis of unknown pathogenesis with immunoglobulin A dominant immune deposits affecting small vessels. The disease typically involves skin of the lower limbs, bowels and glomeruli, and is associated with arthralgia or arthritis. The course of the disease is usually self limiting. However renal involvement may results in long term morbidity. The paper reviews clinical and laboratory features of the disease, diagnostic criteria and treatment of this most common acute systemic vasculitis of childhood.
