HUMOR IN ISLAMIC CULTURE AND REFLECTIONS ON TURKISH LITERATURE: THE SAMPLE OF JAWÂMI‘U’L-HIKÂYÂT

Abstract

When sources whch nclude early perod humor and entertanment lterature are evaluated wth correct analyses, t s observed that socetes come together around laughter despte the dfferences n tme and space. The prncple of the unversalty of emotons and enjoyments has affected Turksh culture throughout hstory and colorful figures have been generated by kneadng humor materals of other cultures n our genune lterature. Thus, some common Anatolan folktales also appear n classcal Arabc and Persan lterature sources. In our study, t’s dentfed and explaned wth examples how Arabc and Persan orgnated Islamc humor materals affected Turksh humor. Jawám‘u’l-Ḥkáyát wa Lawám‘u’r-Rwáyát that s a closely concerned work of Fârsî edp Avfî (ö. 629/1232) whch was compled from Arabc lterature works before hm s apponted as the man source of our work. It’s tred to reveal the humor nteracton among these three ancent cvlzatons by analyzng Arabc lterature works whch are the sources of the author’s work and copes of translaton nto Ottoman Turksh n the 15th century.
