Ichtiofauna rzeki Warty

Abstract

In 2011–2012 fish distribution and community structure were investigated at 73 sites located along the Warta River (795 km long), a right side tributary of the Odra River, Poland. A total of 37 fish and lamprey species were recorded. The dominants were bleak, roach and perch (28%, 25% and 15%, respectively). Lithophils (spirlin, asp, nase, barbel, chub, Ukrainian lamprey, brown trout and grayling) accounted for over 2.5% of the total fish abundance. The number of non-native species, including giebel, topmouth gudgeon and brown bullhead, was very low. Considerable spatial differences in fish distribution were recorded because the river section between the Jeziorsko Reservoir and the City of Poznań was in poor condition due to the strong destabilizing upstream impact of the Jeziorsko dam reservoir, a large amounts of wastewater discharged from the towns located in the catchment area of this section, and the lack of unpolluted tributaries, which could serve as sources of recolonizers.
