Identification Of Unsafe Sexual Behaviors Associated With HIV For LGBT Persons

Abstract
Our research has been carried out in purpose to determine the level of knowledge on HIV and unsafe sexual behaviors of LGBT (Lesbian, Gays, Bisexual, Transsexual/ transvestite) individuals.Our research is a descriptive study which was conducted between June 2013 and September 2014. 95 volunteers of sex workers and 71 non-sex workers at Istanbul who accepted to participate,consists in total of 166 LGBT individuals.Data were obtained using a 24-item questionnaire. Statistical evaluation was carried out with SPSS 16.0 software package. The average age of LGBT individuals participating in our study,was 26.89±8.4 and 32.3% of them were university graduates. Only 22.3% of participants get full points in HIV knowledge questions.It has been determined that only 51.8% LGBT individuals who participated our research made an HIV test at least once in their lives.It is detected that necessary precautions and safe sexual behavior which is neccesery in preventation of HIV has not been founded.
