Impact assessment of groundwater capture in the Supraśl River Valley by a numerical modelling method

Abstract
The groundwater storage in the Supraśl River Valley is an essential water supply source for Białystok. Significant decrease of water consumption has been reported in the city since the early 1990s. Drawdown data used in the Hydrogeological Map of Poland, scale 1:50,000, are based on archival sources. Steady state simulation used in the ModFlow software for impact assessment of groundwater capture in the Supraśl River Valley demonstrated much more detailed and reliable results. A very detailed recharge module, with GIS application, based on analysis of geology, morphology and area coverage groundwater depth was also applied for groundwater modelling.
