Impact Of Microfinance: An Examination In The North East India

Abstract

Understanding the role of microfinance in reduction of poverty and inequality, the present paper investigates the impact of access to credit among the borrowing members as well as non-borrowing members, using primary survey data from Assam, a state of North East India. Based on statistical analysis, the study found that expenditure, which is considered as proxy of economic welfare differs positively in case of participant than to non-participant. Similarly, due participation in the programme; there exist positive difference to borrower’s expenditure in compare to non-borrower. But the regression analysis rejects the hypothesis that increase in expenditure is due to programme participation.
